We are GOROZHANYM,

specifically, focusing on topics such as urban dialogue, community interaction, engagement, and research across the cities of Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

WE CREATE FOR THE COMMUNITY, WITH THE COMMUNITY
When do you need research in the city?

  • When you want a clear roadmap for a large infrastructure project.
  • When you want to hear the voices of everyone involved in urban change and receive an in-depth study of how people use a particular territory.
  • Or when you need to understand what to rely on in tourism programs - where is “our genius loci,” “cult symbol,” “place of pilgrimage”?

The tools that work here are - qualitative methods of working with people: interviews - expert and in-depth, mental mapping, observational methods and environmental analysis.
“The first step in working with a territory is immersion in the context, understanding identity, aligning the image in your head with the image that its users see. Sociological and anthropological research is the key to a treasure box of stories, meanings, and ideas that float around a place”.

Daria Kovalenko, project manager at the international company ATLAS, ex Strelka KB.
Research
When do you need urban moderation?

  • If you want a safe, constructive dialogue between communities, experts, and municipal services
  • If you need to gather expertise from very different fields to make a complex decision (building a hub city, a new airport, or a resort)

We offer a wide range of flexible communication formats: facilitated sessions, discussions and roundtables, focus groups, expert panels, public hearings, open talks, and foresight sessions.
As a communications specialist, I need stakeholder dialogue to be handled professionally. That’s why the moderation of the strategic session was entrusted to Gorozhanym.
I want to highlight the moderators’ strong facilitation skills, their ability to guide discussions and keep the momentum. They managed to create an open and trusting atmosphere.
Well-structured process helped us cover all key issues and arrive at constructive solutions”.

When do you need placemaking?

  • If you want to be confident in your investments
  • If you need a fast pilot to test flexibility, clarity, usability, feasibility, donor potential -and uniqueness
  • If you want your projects to support long-term territorial development

You can rely on placemaking, tactical urbanism, and festival-based formats to co-design and - most importantly - co-implement transformations of urban spaces.
As an anthropologist, participatory tools feel like an extension of our core method - participant observation. They help not only study reality but gradually become part of it, and even transform it.
From this perspective, participation is more than a tool - it’s a bridge that connects different groups, helping them hear one another and co-create new solutions through genuine dialogue.”.
